SECTION 1 - General hard water related questions

Q1: I live in a hard water area, what are my options?
A: There is only one option:
Install an electronic water conditioner!
If you don't, you face the consequences of increased costs in domestic water heating, early breakdown of your boiler, your hot tank, washing machine, dishwasher and other appliances, blocked showers, need for extra detergents, skin discomfort, tough on baby's skin.
If you purchase a complete traditional water softener it costs up to £2500 (00) + installation. It will need a constant supply of salt, which can cost as much as £200 (0) per annum and you have running costs. It has to be maintained and requires a lot of space. You also usually need a separate tap for drinking water.
Using an electronic water conditioner from our Water Imp range gives you the following benefits:
-
DIY INSTALLATION, NO PLUMBING, NO FUSS, FIT AND FORGET.
-
Smaller than a box of chocolates.
-
Prevents limescale formation, breaks down existing limescale.
-
No MAINTAINANCE.
-
Running costs less than £3 () per annum.
-
Environmentally friendly - no chemicals.
Q2: Does water conditioning remove existing limescale build-up?
A: Yes, clears quickly where the build-up is not serious. Slowly where the build-up is heavy. But it is almost impossible if the pipes are so blocked that the flow of water is totally constricted.
Q3: Why do I need an electronic water conditioner?
A: If you live in a hard water area, limescale will build up in your water system, blocking pipes, reducing the efficiency of your boiler and hot tank. This increases the cost of domestic water heating, often by as much as 15-25%, limescale build up may also cause the early replacement of your boiler and/or hot water tank.
Electronic water conditioners contribute to the improved working, and longer lifespan of solar heating systems, air conditioning units and many other water based applications where valves, heat exchangers, filters and control units are used.
The benefits of an electronic water conditioner is that it is:
-
easier to install. You simply attach it to the outside of the water pipe. No cutting of pipes or plumbing required.
-
easier to maintain. In truth, NO MAINTENANCE is required. Once you have attached the unit, you do not need to do anything further.

Q1: Where do you attach the water conditioner?
A: Anywhere on your cold water pipe between the input and the boiler - suggested locations are included with the installation instructions.

Q2: Do I need to call a plumber to fit the water conditioner?
A: No. There is no plumbing required, the conditioner only requires a simple DIY installation.

Q3: How much space is required on the cold water pipe?
A: Two inches/5cm.

Q4: Can I install the device vertically?
A: Yes, it can be installed in any plane.

Q5: How will I know the device is working?
A: Four LEDs confirm correct operation.
Q6: Is there any servicing or maintenance required?
A: No.

Q7: Can your units be fitted to copper and plastic pipes?
A: Yes. But NOT on lead pipes.

Q8: Do I still need to have a separate hard water tap?
A: No. The healthy minerals are still in the processed water.

Q9: Do you require power to your units?
A: Yes. Elf, Super Imp and the Industrial heavy duty unit require mains electricity. We supply power transformers to suit your country. We also supply 2 metre power extension cables if your power point is more than 6 feet away. The following products DO NOT require any power:- H2flow, MWC3, MT-C25, MT-C50, MWC4, MWC5, MWC6, MWC7.

Q10: How much space is required for the aerial
A: Approx.2" (5 cm)

Q1: Does it cause interference?
A: The conditioner operates at very low frequencies and is unlikely to interfere with domestic electronic equipment.

Q2: Is it harmful to young children?
A: No. It will be helpful to those with sensitive skin.

Q3: Where does the limescale go?
A: The limescale changes state and is carried out with the water instead of sticking to pipes, boilers and fittings; a little will fall out of harms way to the bottom of the hot water tank but will eventually be cleared by the processed water continuously passing through the tank.

Q4: My child suffers from eczema and other skin ailments. Will your conditioner help?
A: We cannot make medical claims but we have experience of cases where such people have benefited. By removing the limescale the water will be softer and kinder to the skin and hair.

Q5: How does a small device like this remove limescale from the boiler and pipes throughout the house?
A: A magnetic field is created around the pipe which changes the state of the limescale in the water which passes through this magnetic field. This treated water then travels throughout the system.

Q6: Is the water safe to drink after treatment?
A: Yes. The treated water still has all the natural life giving minerals retained. We do not use salt.

Q7: Are the electronic water conditioners water softeners?
A: No. But because we change the state of the limescale (calcium carbonate), it gives the water the same effect as a water softener.

Q8: Will there be a salty/saline taste to the water?
A: No. Because there is no salt used in the process.

Q9: Do you need to purge or replenish salt?
A: No. There is no salt used in the process.

Q10: How long will it take to see signs of softening calcium carbonate (limescale)?
A: This will depend on the hardness of your water, the amount of limescale build-up over how many years and the rate of flow of water through the system. Be patient. It could all be cleared in a matter of weeks. Our advice is FIT & FORGET and gradually you will see and feel the improvement. So will your plants watered with treated water.

Q11: What happens to treated water left in the water tank and not used for three weeks or more?
A: The water reverts in 7-10 days, but will quickly be rejuvinated when you return and start using the water again. If you are concerned about the quality, quickly drain the main tank when you return and then refill it with treated water.

Q12: Does the unit affect the water pressure?
A: No.

Q13: Will your units save us money?
A: Yes.
a) Because it will clear limescale in your boiler so that your Electricity or Gas only has to heat the water directly; not through the limescale.
b) All equipment in the system will run more efficiently therefore less likely to breakdown. - Reduced service bills.
Q14: Will the showerhead, mixer tap and toilets operate better?
A: Yes.

Q15: What maintenance is required?
A: None, fit it, switch it on and forget about it.
